Meet the Woodlanders
Frank the Fox
Frank is the official sign-painter of Brimblewood, known for his beautifully lettered wooden signs that guide Woodlanders and their visitors through the woods. Frank adores his partner Flick and their curious little cub, Flora. He’s the kind of fox who listens more than he talks, but when he speaks, it’s always something worth hearing. (He’d like to add that he absolutely did not paint the Post Office sign, which Rhubarb the Red Squirrel is responsible for.)
Flick the Fox
Flick knows all of Brimblewood’s shortcuts and hiding spots, and exactly how to cheer someone up with a perfectly timed joke. She’s Frank’s partner and best friend, and together they look out for their little cub, Flora.
One morning, while enjoying a cup of tea on a bench beyond Brimblewood, Flick met a little lost teddy called Ted. After a very brave adventure, Ted now calls Flick's rucksack home - and ever since, other lost teddies have been finding their way to Brimblewood, where the Woodlanders welcome them into their families.
Bryn the Bear
Bryn knows how to build the best dens from fallen branches and moss, and is gentle, dependable, and extremely patient (even when his cub, Benjamin, asks for one more bedtime story). He’s happiest when the kettle’s on and everyone’s safe and warm. He’s Betsy’s partner and Benjamin’s proud father, and he’ll do anything to keep their little family cosy and cared for.
Betsy the Bear
Betsy is everyone’s agony auntie. She’s calm, endlessly kind, and always knows how to make you feel at home. She bakes the best apple crumble in Brimblewood (though Frank still argues that Flick’s apple and blackberry crumble is the best overall) and gives the warmest hugs. She’s Bryn’s partner and Benjamin’s mum, and her door is always open to a friend in need.
Doran the Dog
Doran is the wisest Woodlander - the one who notices the things others miss. He lives in a shepherd’s hut and keeps a careful watch over The Lantern Bridge. When something’s troubling them, the Woodlanders often find their way to Doran for his gentle words and calming presence, or to simply sit quietly beside their friend.
Rhubarb the Red Squirrel
Rhubarb is the Brimblewood postie - a cheerful little squirrel with a satchel full of letters. She takes her job very seriously (even if she occasionally gets a bit distracted and accidentally buries letters for later). She’s very proud of her 52% delivery rate and her own hand-painted ‘Poast Office’ sign.
Rosie the Rabbit
Rosie lives in a mezzanine flat above the Brimblewood library, which is tucked snugly inside her burrow. Gentle and thoughtful, she always knows just the right book to recommend - especially if you’re feeling a bit lost or in need of a comforting tale. Selma the Sheep is the only Woodlander who is late returning library books, but Rosie doesn’t like to charge her money, so she accepts fresh carrots instead. She’s unsure where Selma finds the carrots as Selma doesn’t have a vegetable garden. In fact, Rosie is the only Woodlander who has a vegetable garden. And grows carrots.
Bill the Badger
Bill can usually be found tinkering with tools or mending something useful in his sett. He’s the quiet, dependable sort - the one the other Woodlanders turn to when something’s broken or needs a clever fix. When he’s not at home, he’s usually on his daily walk to Bryn and Betsy’s house to find out what Betsy’s baking today.
Selma the Sheep
Selma pitches her patchwork tent in a new spot every week. She’s the most outgoing Woodlander, Flora and Benjamin's favourite adopted auntie, and brings the fun wherever she goes. She’s a little forgetful and often leaves a trail of her belongings behind her as she travels. Frank calls it littering, but the cubs call it ‘Selma's Treasure Hunt’. Every full moon, she organises a campfire gathering by The Lantern Bridge.
